In this method, the stories were scrutinized for its form, compression, and effect. This study traced and pointed out the elements of romanticism in the selected works of Nick Joaquin, specifically, it answered the following questions: (1) What are the elements of Romanticism? (2) What elements of Romanticism are present in the selected works of Nick Joaquin? (3) How did the romantic elements found on the literary pieces contribute to the presentation of the theme, plot and characterization in relation to the setting and style as well? The inductive method of criticism was used in the analyses of the selected short stories that was, proceeding from particulars to generalizations.
